The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the recent U.S. actions.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that the threat of economic sanctions against Tehran is primarily aimed at diverting US public attention from mounting domestic financial crises, including ballooning public debt and soaring interest rates, Voice of Emirates reported.

The ministry emphasized that these policies constitute unjustified pressure that undermines overall economic stability.

In the same vein, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, criticized the US announcement of a new economic campaign. He emphasized that Washington resorted to these measures after its military campaign faltered and failed to achieve any of its stated objectives on the ground. Gharibabadi pointed out that the US approach is based on a recurring pattern of miscalculations in managing regional and international crises.

Background to the Escalation and the Threat of Severe Sanctions

These swift Iranian responses come in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a new phase of comprehensive pressure and sanctions. He vowed to impose harsh penalties on any parties or entities providing financial or economic support to Tehran. He also called on the international community to adhere to the policy of economic isolation imposed on Iran.
