Kazakhstan and Greece are looking to expand economic ties, with eight investment projects worth a combined $133.5 million in their bilateral cooperation portfolio.
Kazakhstan Deputy Foreign Minister Ardak Zebeshev met with Greek Ambassador to Kazakhstan Antonia Katzourou to discuss opportunities to strengthen trade, economic and investment cooperation and advance joint projects, Qazinform News Agency reports.
“We want the partnership between Kazakhstan and Greece to be measured not only by the volume of oil supplies, but also by the number of new production facilities, technologies introduced, and jobs created. Greek business interest in Kazakhstan is becoming increasingly practical. It is now time to move from general agreements to concrete economic results. We are ready to support every investor from initial negotiations through to the launch of operations,” Zebeshev said.
Nearly 50 companies with Greek capital currently operate in Kazakhstan, reflecting growing business ties between the two countries.
The bilateral investment portfolio includes eight projects worth $133.5 million. One is already being implemented by Greek company SABO, which is building three municipal solid waste processing plants in Oskemen, Semey and Aktobe.
Five other projects, with a combined value of $122 million, are under active development. They include an elevator equipment manufacturing facility by Doppler in Astana, a dairy processing plant by Desserta Hellas in Akmola Region, and initiatives involving industrial and municipal waste processing and solar energy.
Meanwhile, METLEN Energy & Metals is exploring opportunities to process metallurgical waste and recover critical metals, including copper, zinc, nickel and cobalt.
Energy remains a key pillar of Kazakhstan-Greece economic relations. Kazakhstan is Greece’s second-largest crude oil supplier, accounting for approximately 24% of the country’s oil imports.
