Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan Aim to Further Strengthen Strategic Partnership

The Uzbek and Turkmen leaders focused on implementing previously reached agreements and preparing for the upcoming high-level meetings.

During a telephone conversation on December 5, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed in detail the current issues of further strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and expanding multifaceted cooperation.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people conveyed greetings and best wishes from the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the President of Uzbekistan, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

The parties focused on implementing previously reached agreements and preparing for the upcoming high-level meetings.

The noticeable intensification of mutual contacts and exchanges was noted with particular satisfaction. Last month, the Forum of Regions, the Industrial Exhibition, and the Uzbek Culture Days in Turkmenistan were fruitfully held. In addition, a collection of works in the Uzbek language was presented, and a joint feature film about the outstanding thinker and poet Magtymguly Fragi was screened in the city of Ashgabat.

Since the beginning of the year, trade turnover has exceeded $1 billion. Freight transportation is growing, including through the Turkmenbashi port. The construction of the border zone “Shavat – Dashoguz” is underway. Cooperation in industry, agriculture, transport, and other areas is deepening.

Prospects for further development of mutually beneficial cooperation in energy and water management were discussed.

Views were exchanged on the current international situation and the regional agenda.

During the conversation, the President of Uzbekistan warmly congratulated the Leader of Turkmenistan on the upcoming holiday – the Day of Neutrality of the country, sincerely wishing well-being and prosperity to the fraternal Turkmen people.
