Ukraine’s Defense Forces have launched a missile strike on the Energiya plant in Yelets, in Russia’s Lipetsk region.
The facility is located approximately 300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, according to the monitoring channel Exilenova+.
Following the reported strike, a large fire broke out at the plant, accompanied by heavy smoke. Exilenova+ reported that the facade and interior of one of the production buildings had sustained significant damage.
“The further operation of this building is impossible,” analysts said.
The plant was hit by several cruise missiles, with Storm Shadow missiles suspected of being used.
According to Ukrainian defense outlet Militarnyi, the Energiya plant manufactures power sources for several types of Russian weapons, including the 9B280-1 batteries used in 9M727 cruise missiles for the Iskander-K system.
The company also supplies 9B-287 batteries for UMPB D-30SN glide bombs and produces power sources for universal planning and correction modules, Iskander-M ballistic missiles and Kh-35U anti-ship missiles.
