Armenia Delays Road Construction for Trump Route Project

Armenia is falling behind schedule on the construction of a new road to the southern village of Nernadzor, which is expected to be affected by the planned Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project.

In August, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the railway planned under the TRIPP initiative would follow a Soviet-era railway alignment. However, the existing route currently carries the active road connecting the village, making the construction of a replacement road necessary, according to Sputnik Armenia.

Authorities had previously decided to build a new road, but the project’s deadlines have been repeatedly postponed.

In July, Armenia’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure said the first phase of construction was expected to be completed by August 30, 2026. Nearly a month and a half later, the work remains unfinished.

The contractor had initially pledged to complete the first phase, valued at approximately $6.7 million, by the end of 2025.
