Azerbaijan, EU Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova held a meeting with Marijana Kujundžić, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Azerbaijan.

The talks centered on the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijan-EU relations, The Caspian Post reports, citing the Milli Majlis.

Both sides welcomed the positive dynamics observed in bilateral ties throughout 2025, highlighting reciprocal visits and high-level engagements.

They underlined the importance of discussions held between President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the European Council António Costa, as well as President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, noting their role in advancing different dimensions of the bilateral agenda.

Marijana Kujundžić congratulated Azerbaijan on the progress achieved in the peace process with Armenia, describing it as a historic development. She emphasized that these achievements carry significance not only for the region and Europe as a whole, but also at the global level.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova provided detailed information on the ongoing Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process and confidence-building measures between the two parliaments. She also drew attention to concerns related to the Strategic Agenda for the EU-Armenia Partnership and highlighted the close cooperation between the Azerbaijani parliament and those of EU member states, recalling her relevant visits and meetings.

Referring to resolutions adopted by the European Parliament against Azerbaijan, Gafarova stressed that current regional realities and tangible progress in the peace process with Armenia clearly demonstrate the biased nature of such documents.

The meeting also reviewed other aspects of Azerbaijan-EU relations, underscoring the importance of the energy partnership and discussing potential opportunities to expand cooperation in areas such as transport, trade, and other sectors.
