Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) transported more than 7.3 million passengers during the first eight months of this year, marking an 18 percent increase compared with the same period last year.
According to ADY, the Absheron Circular Railway accounted for the overwhelming majority of passenger traffic between January and August, carrying 6.9 million passengers, up 17 percent year-on-year, The Caspian Post reports.
Interregional routes served 396,000 passengers during the period, representing a 15 percent increase, while 53,000 passengers traveled on the international Baku-Tbilisi-Baku route.
Passenger traffic also recorded a significant increase in August alone. ADY transported 913,568 passengers during the month, 24 percent more than in August of the previous year.
