Slovakia and Azerbaijan are discussing ways to expand cooperation in the defense industry, including in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Robert Bestro, Slovakia’s Director General for Defense Policy Division at the Ministry of Defense, made the remarks on the sidelines of ADEX 2026 in Baku, according to Report.

Bestro said that defense cooperation between the two countries has been productive and continues to expand. He said strong working relations have developed between Slovakia and Azerbaijan’s defense industry and defense ministries.

Bestro noted that Slovakia has already signed a contract with Azerbaijan for the supply of new fully automated mortar systems.

“We are very proud of this product of our defense industry and grateful to Azerbaijan for all the support it has provided us,” he said.

Slovakia has significant experience in heavy industry, particularly in the production of artillery systems and ammunition. At the same time, Bestro said Slovakia is interested in learning from Azerbaijan’s experience in emerging technological fields.

These areas include UAVs, electronic warfare and cybersecurity.

Asked whether new agreements could be signed by the end of this year or next year, Bestro said the two sides are discussing several areas of potential cooperation.

“Drones and developing capabilities in this area are among the most pressing topics. I think we will be able to move toward concrete agreements in the near future,” he added.
