Kazakhstan–Kyrgyzstan Border Crossing Moves to 24/7 Mode

Deputies of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan have approved a bill ratifying a protocol that introduces amendments to the agreement between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan concerning state border checkpoints.

Under the adopted document, the operating schedule of the Kegen road checkpoint on the Kazakh side and the Karkyra road checkpoint on the Kyrgyz side will be changed, The Caspian Post reports, citing Qazinform.

Instead of operating only during daytime hours, both checkpoints will move to a round-the-clock режим, allowing continuous operation 24 hours a day.

“Changing the operating regime of this checkpoint will contribute to the further development of Kazakh-Kyrgyz cross-border cooperation, boost trade turnover, and strengthen cooperation in the tourism sector. It will also help ease passenger traffic at other road checkpoints along the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan state border,” the bill’s explanatory note says.
