Iran has claimed it shot down a U.S. A-10 aircraft near the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by the Tasnim news agency.

Citing the army public relations team, the report said the aircraft was targeted in waters south of and around the strategic waterway, The Caspian Post reports, citing AL Jazeera.

The claim could not be independently verified.

The A-10 is a US ground-attack aircraft designed for close air support missions, particularly against armoured vehicles and ground forces.

This come after US media reports said a second US ⁠Air Force combat plane had crashed ⁠in the ⁠Gulf region ⁠on Friday.
