Iran’s President Calls Azerbaijani Counterpart After Nakhchivan Incident

President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian has had a phone talk with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev amid heightened tensions in the region.

Pezeshkian thanked Aliyev for visiting the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan to express condolences following the deaths of numerous civilians and the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. He also expressed appreciation for Azerbaijan’s willingness to provide humanitarian assistance to Iran, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

During the call, the Iranian president addressed the recent airstrike incident involving Nakhchivan, stating that it had no connection to Iran and assuring that the circumstances surrounding the incident would be thoroughly investigated.

President Aliyev reiterated his condolences over the civilian casualties in Iran and stressed the importance of conducting a full investigation into the incident in Nakhchivan.
