Nuclear talks between Iran and the United States that were scheduled for Friday have been canceled, according to two senior US officials.

The officials said the cancellation followed Iran’s decision to back away from previously reached understandings, The Caspian Post reports, citing Iran International.

According to one senior US official quoted in the report, Iran attempted to move the talks from Türkiye to Oman and sought to exclude other countries from participating.

“We said no. We tried to reach a compromise, but the Iranians refused,” the official said, adding that there is now a strong possibility the talks will not take place at all this week.

Another senior US official, also cited by N12 News, said Washington remains cautious in its approach. “We are not naive about the Iranians. If there is a real conversation - we will hold it, but we will not waste our time,” the official said.
