Talks between delegations from Iran and the United States in Islamabad are expected to take place in two formats-both direct and indirect-according to sources, The Caspian Post reports, citing CNN.

The report says the agenda for the negotiations will first be approved by both sides through intermediaries acting under the mediation of Pakistan. After this stage, the delegations are expected to proceed to direct talks.

On April 7, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week mutual ceasefire with Iran, stating that most major issues had been resolved and that Washington considers Tehran’s 10-point proposal a basis for further negotiations.

Trump said the decision followed Iran’s willingness to open the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, in turn, reportedly agreed to halt “defensive attacks” provided no strikes are carried out against it.

Shehbaz Sharif, who is mediating between the two sides, has invited both parties to talks in Islamabad.
