Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, has said that Iran believes the US has fallen into a trap by allowing the conflict in the Middle East to drag on, arguing that a war of attrition could benefit Tehran thanks to its extensive network of underground facilities and fully integrated manufacturing plants.
“A war of attrition will work in Iran’s favor and to America’s detriment. In a prolonged war, the key question is whether a country can sustain a continuous cycle of production, deployment and response. We have demonstrated that we can inflict damage on the opposing side,” Rezaei said, TASS reports.
He added that the confrontation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz had become a new pretext for Washington to prolong hostilities.
Tehran, he stressed, does not intend to give up its leverage until the US fulfills its commitments.
