Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has described his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev as friendly and constructive, highlighting key progress on economic and regional cooperation.
The remarks appeared during a press conference in Tehran, following Pezeshkian’s return from the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), held in Azerbaijan’s Khankendi on July 4, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
Pezeshkian stated that the discussions with President Aliyev produced positive understandings aimed at strengthening bilateral ties in trade, infrastructure, and regional development.
He also characterized his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as very positive and constructive, with a focus on economic collaboration and further diplomatic coordination between the two nations.
The Iranian president held similar talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which he described as constructive and forward-looking. The leaders discussed efforts to boost mutual understanding and promote deeper diplomatic and economic engagement.
In a separate meeting with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, both sides emphasized the need to enhance cooperation in economic, scientific, and transport sectors. Pezeshkian underscored both countries’ commitment to further strengthening bilateral partnerships.
“These kinds of visits can create real momentum for stronger ties among Muslim nations,” Pezeshkian said. “Scientific, transport, and cultural professionals must be more engaged. These exchanges shouldn’t stop at presidential summits-ministers and deputy ministers should actively follow up on agreements.”
The 17th ECO Summit brought together regional leaders to advance strategies for economic integration, connectivity, and cross-border collaboration across member states.
