A tragic bus accident in southern Iran has left at least 22 people dead and 36 others injured.
The incident occurred on the highway between the cities of Firuzabad and Kavar in Fars Province, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
The accident involved a passenger bus carrying 58 people that overturned under yet-unknown circumstances.
Masoud Abed, head of the Fars emergency medical services, reported that 22 passengers died at the scene or shortly after the crash. Thirty-six others sustained various injuries, some of whom remain in critical condition.
“The death toll could rise, as several of the injured are in serious condition and are receiving emergency care,” Abed stated.
Rescue and medical teams were promptly dispatched to the site of the crash. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
