Two law enforcement personnel were killed and two others wounded in a “terrorist” attack by unknown gunmen on a police checkpoint in Iran’s western Kurdestan province, The Caspian Post reports, citing Xinhua.
The attack took place at around 11:00 p.m. local time (19:30 GMT) on Friday on the road between the counties of Baneh and Saqqez.
Fars news agency said the injured officers were taken to medical centers, while provincial police issued orders to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
Kurdestan province shares a border with Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, where border areas are home to separatist groups that Iran has designated as “terrorist” organizations.
