Kazakhstan Audits 50 Defense Sites After Tragedy in Caspian Sea

Kazakhstan has launched an audit of 50 Defense Ministry facilities, including 48 military units, following the deadly incident in the Caspian Sea.

The audit will examine the state of affairs across all areas of the country’s armed forces, including the modernization of weapons and military equipment and the conduct of military exercises, Alikhan Smailov, chairman of Kazakhstan’s Supreme Audit Chamber, said, according to Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The state audit of the Defense Ministry began after a military exercise in the Caspian Sea ended in tragedy and is still underway.

On September 24, 17 servicemen were swept into the open sea after a sudden and sharp deterioration in weather conditions. Three servicemen survived, while 14 died.

Kazakhstan also plans to carry out military reforms following the incident.
