Kazakhstan’s Kurultai deputies approved in the first reading a bill to ratify an agreement on military-technical cooperation between Kazakhstan and Serbia at a plenary session on September 16, 2026.

Deputy Defense Minister Shaikh-Khasan Zhazykbayev presented the document to lawmakers. He noted that the agreement was signed in Belgrade on November 29, 2023. Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry also confirmed the signing at the time, saying the document was intended to provide a legal framework for practical cooperation between the two countries, Zakon.kz reports.

“The main goal of the agreement is to establish and further develop mutually beneficial military-technical cooperation between the two countries,” Zhazykbayev said.

The agreement provides for mutual supplies of military products, as well as the maintenance and repair of weapons and military equipment. It also envisages joint research and development projects.

The two countries are expected to cooperate on technology transfers, military-technical assistance, and the training and education of military-technical personnel.

The agreement also provides for joint testing of weapons and military equipment, taking into account the capabilities of the military infrastructure of both countries.

Kazakhstan and Serbia have continued discussions on defense and military-technical cooperation since the agreement was signed, including talks on implementing bilateral arrangements and developing projects in the sector.
