Kazakhstan and Oman have signed a series of agreements covering investment, aviation, finance, tourism, geological exploration and other areas following expanded-format talks between Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.
The two leaders also adopted a Joint Statement outlining the future direction of Kazakhstan-Oman relations, Qazinform reports.
A ceremony was held in the presence of the two heads of state to exchange eight intergovernmental and interagency documents:
Investment: An agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investments between the governments of Kazakhstan and Oman.
Aviation: An air services agreement between the two countries.
Joint investment: An agreement between Samruk-Kazyna and the Oman Investment Authority to establish a joint investment fund.
Tourism and development: An agreement outlining the main terms of the joint Blue City Rixos project between Samruk-Kazyna and the Oman Investment Authority.
Finance: A memorandum on cooperation in the financial sector between the finance ministries of Kazakhstan and Oman.
Business: An agreement to establish the Kazakhstan-Oman Business Council between Atameken and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Geology and energy: An agreement on strategic cooperation in geological exploration between KazMunayGas and OQ Exploration & Production.
Banking: An agreement establishing the terms for the Eurasian Development Bank’s presence in Oman.
Sultan Haitham arrived in Astana on October 5 for a state visit and was welcomed at the airport by President Tokayev.
During earlier one-on-one talks, Tokayev described the Sultan’s first visit to Kazakhstan as a historic event and highlighted the potential for expanding bilateral cooperation.
Sultan Haitham, in turn, invited President Tokayev to visit Oman.
