Kazakhstan is seeking to amend a legal assistance treaty signed with Türkiye in 1995.

The proposed changes are intended to update the agreement between Kazakhstan and Türkiye on legal assistance in civil matters by formally notifying Ankara through diplomatic channels about Kazakhstan’s designated central authorities, their responsibilities and contact details, KazTag reports.

“The Treaty between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Türkiye on Legal Assistance in Civil Matters establishes the procedure and conditions for providing mutual legal assistance in civil and criminal matters, and is aimed at protecting the rights of individuals and legal entities established in the territory of each party,” the explanatory note to the draft government resolution says.

A draft protocol to amend the treaty has been prepared for this purpose, along with a draft law required for the changes to enter into force.

The government’s proposal calls for submitting to the Kazakh Parliament’s Kurultai a draft law titled “On Ratification of the Protocol Amending the Treaty between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Türkiye on Legal Assistance in Civil Matters of June 13, 1995.”
