Kazakhstan Sends Diplomatic Note to Russia Over Stranded Transit Trucks

Kazakhstan's 20 transit good trucks bound for Europe from China through territories of Kazakhstan and Russia have been stranded at Russian border due to recent restrictions the Russian side introduced on exporting certain goods to EU countries.

In his response to the inquiry by the Majilis deputies, Kazakh Deputy Premier - National Economy Minister Serik Zhumangarin said that the Kazakhstani trucks were halted at the Russian customs due to the amendments as of October 15, 2024, to the decree of the Russian government as of March 9, 2022 No.313, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

According to the amendments, Russia extended a list of restricted goods for export to the EU countries and others, adding new restrictions on exports of a range of goods (UAVs, military uniform, electric generators, batteries and so on).

The Kazakh side was not informed about the introduction of the amendments, that were introduced unilaterally, reads the Kazakh Deputy Premier’s response.

The Kazakh Trade and Integration, Foreign Ministries are in talks with Russia’s authorized agencies regarding the situation.

According to Moscow, Russia introduced the amendments in retaliation for the sanctions against it.

Besides, the Kazakh embassy sent a corresponding note to the Russian Foreign Ministry to resolve the issue, which both sides seek to discuss in a bilateral format within the Eurasian Economic Commission, said Zhumangarin.
