Bosphorus Shipping Resumes After Cargo Ship Engine Failure

Ship traffic through Bosphorus Strait in Türkiye's Istanbul city has resumed after a technical failure aboard the cargo vessel Alisuvar Mammadov was resolved.

The 139-meter vessel, sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, suffered a main engine malfunction while transiting the strait and was forced to anchor off Kanlıca, on Istanbul’s Asian side, TRT Haber reports.

Coast Guard boats and rescue tugboats operated by Türkiye’s Directorate General of Coastal Safety were dispatched to the scene.

Ship traffic through the Bosphorus was suspended in both directions while the technical issue was being addressed, temporarily disrupting passage through one of the world’s key maritime routes.

After repairs were completed, the cargo ship resumed its journey under tugboat escort. Authorities subsequently restored traffic through the strait in the south-to-north direction.
