A major fire at the construction site of Russia’s Amur Gas Chemical Complex in the city of Svobodny has been extinguished, but the number of casualties continues to rise.

The company said all fire hotspots at the construction site have been eliminated, while specialists are completing the controlled burning of remaining technological gases. An inspection of the site has also begun, TASS reports.

The death toll has risen to seven, while 152 people have sought medical assistance following the incident. Thirty-six people have been hospitalized.

The fate of nine Chinese nationals remains unknown as authorities continue to assess the aftermath of the fire.

The company said no excessive concentrations of monitored hazardous substances were detected at the site.

Psychological assistance is being provided to the victims and their family members. A Russian Emergencies Ministry Il-76 aircraft has also arrived to transport some of the hospitalized victims to federal medical facilities for further treatment.
