Russian authorities said air defenses intercepted 51 drones overnight in the Leningrad region near Ust-Luga, a major oil export hub.

Leningrad Governor Alexander Drozdenko said authorities initially issued a drone threat warning across the region as air defense systems responded to the incoming UAVs, Anadolu Agency reported.

In an initial update, Drozdenko said 15 “enemy” drones had been destroyed. The reported number later increased to 37 as the operation continued.

In a subsequent statement, the governor said a total of 51 drones had been shot down over the region.

Despite the reported interceptions, the attack caused damage at the port of Ust-Luga.

“As a result of the damage, a fire was recorded in the port of Ust-Luga,” Drozdenko said, adding that specialists had begun efforts to extinguish the blaze.

He also said fighting was continuing as authorities worked to deal with the aftermath of the attack.

The governor later announced that the drone threat had been eliminated.

Ust-Luga is a strategically important port on Russia’s Baltic coast and serves as a major export hub for oil and other commodities.

The reported attack comes amid continued Ukrainian drone strikes deep inside Russian territory, with energy infrastructure and transport facilities increasingly becoming targets.

Russian officials did not immediately provide further details about the extent of the damage at Ust-Luga or identify the origin of the drones.
