Russia’s Yak-130M combat training aircraft has been equipped with upgraded weapons, including precision-guided munitions using laser guidance, state-owned defense conglomerate Rostec announced.
“The Yak-130M has been taught to strike with precision weapons guided by laser,” Rostec said in a statement.
The aircraft’s arsenal has been expanded to include smart munitions designed for use in all weather conditions, both day and night.
The upgrade was made possible by new targeting systems, including the SOLT-130K targeting pod, which features thermal imaging, television and laser channels.
The aircraft’s primary weapons will include guided bombs with satellite and laser guidance systems. The Yak-130M can carry up to 2.5 tonnes of payload, while individual guided bombs can weigh up to 500 kilograms.
