Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met in Moscow on Tuesday to discuss expanding bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation in the energy sector.

The talks took place on the sidelines of the 8th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Russia. The two leaders reviewed the current state of relations between Tehran and Doha, The Caspian Post reports, citing IRNA.

Energy cooperation, the expansion of economic and trade ties, and stronger coordination among gas-exporting countries were among the key issues discussed during the meeting.

Both sides emphasized the need to broaden and strengthen political and economic relations, as well as make use of existing potential to enhance cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

Pezeshkian is scheduled to address the GECF summit today, presenting Iran’s proposals to strengthen cooperation among countries with major energy reserves and promote multilateralism on the international stage.

The Iranian president, who is accompanied by a high-level delegation, is also scheduled to meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and hold talks with the leaders of several other participating countries.
