Ukraine’s Security Service has detained two Russian servicemen who deserted their positions and attempted to reach Kyiv disguised as civilians.

The two men deserted during an assault in the Kramatorsk direction. They reportedly buried their weapons and military uniforms, changed into civilian clothing and hitchhiked in an attempt to escape, according to UNIAN.

The men planned to hide at relatives’ homes in Kyiv. However, they were detained at a checkpoint as they entered Dnipropetrovsk region.

During a search, officers reportedly found a personal military identification tag on one of the men.
