Deadly Clash Erupts on Tajik–Afghan Border

An armed clash has been reported on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border, raising fresh security concerns in the region.

The incident involved an exchange of fire along the border area, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.

Three members of a terrorist organization who illegally crossed the border in the Shamsiddin Shohin district of Tajikistan’s Khatlon region, bordering Afghanistan, were neutralized. Two Tajik border guards were killed in the incident.

The incident began after a group of suspected Afghan smugglers crossed the border, triggering an exchange of gunfire.

Two Tajik border guards were killed in the clash, while several others sustained injuries. Authorities have not yet released official details on the condition of the wounded or the exact circumstances surrounding the confrontation.

After the terrorists were neutralized, the situation on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border is calm.
