Tashkent Mall Fire Triggers Criminal Investigation

Investigative authorities in Uzbekistan have opened a criminal case over a fire at the Aviator shopping and entertainment center in Tashkent.

The case has been launched under two articles of the Criminal Code: abuse of authority in a non-governmental organization and violation of fire safety regulations, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Investigators are continuing to determine the causes of the incident, assess the actions of responsible officials, and collect additional evidence.

The blaze broke out on January 31 at the Pixel children’s playground on the second floor of the Aviator Mall. At the time of the fire, more than 120 people were inside the building. During a post-fire inspection, rescuers discovered the body of a three-year-old child, authorities said.
