Uzbekistan Brings Back Woman Wanted in Human Trafficking Case

An Uzbek woman who had been wanted internationally for several years has been brought back to Uzbekistan from Türkiye.

The Uzbek Consulate General in Istanbul said the woman was located during a joint operation by law enforcement agencies in Uzbekistan and Türkiye, according to upl.uz.

She entered into a criminal conspiracy with other individuals to recruit young women in Uzbekistan and illegally transport them to Türkiye and Thailand via Kazakhstan for prostitution.

A criminal case has been opened against the woman under Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code on charges of human trafficking and illegal departure from or entry into Uzbekistan.

The woman is expected to appear in court in the near future.
