Azerbaijan and Gambia Discuss Expanding Cooperation

From December 15 to 18, Nazim Samadov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Morocco and The Gambia, visited various government institutions, university campuses, and media establishments in The Gambia, engaging with prominent officials and figures from different sectors, The Caspian Post reports, citing AZERTAC.

According to a statement from the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Rabat, that during the visit, the Ambassador met with the Speaker of the Gambian National Assembly, Fabakary Tombong Jatta; the Vice-President, Seedy Njie; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Ambassador Lang Yabou; the Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Badjie; and the Mayor of Banjul, Rohey Malick Lowe. The meetings featured a wide-ranging exchange of views on the current state and prospects of bilateral relations in political, economic, and humanitarian fields, as well as discussions on deepening cooperation and implementing joint projects.

The participants welcomed the strong friendly ties between Azerbaijan and The Gambia. They also emphasized cooperation within international organizations, including the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Non-Aligned Movement, highlighting the importance of mutual support on multilateral platforms. The role of parliamentary cooperation was also underscored, with the establishment of friendship groups within the supreme legislative bodies of both countries seen as a significant step toward strengthening interparliamentary ties.

Ambassador Samadov also visited the Faraba campus of the University of The Gambia, the country’s main higher education institution, accompanied by the Gambian Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology, Pierre Gomez. During the visit, it was noted that Azerbaijan could support the university through the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA), with the Gambian side considering relevant proposals.

In addition, the Ambassador visited the headquarters of the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), the country’s public broadcaster, where discussions focused on potential cooperation between similar media organizations in both countries. The importance of promoting Azerbaijan in The Gambia, developing contacts between media representatives, and organizing familiarization visits for Gambian journalists to Azerbaijan was also highlighted.
