Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov met with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) led by its Executive Director Satya Srinivas.

“At the meeting, we discussed new areas of our energy cooperation. We explored opportunities to expand our partnership with ADB in the integration of renewable energy into the grid, the development of offshore wind energy projects, green energy corridors and heat supply,” Shahbazov wrote on X, The Caspian Post reports.

The minister briefed the delegation on Azerbaijan’s role in ensuring energy security, diversifying its energy system and advancing renewable energy development.

The meeting noted that the share of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan’s total installed capacity is expected to exceed 30 percent next year. A study of the country’s power grid is currently underway to assess its capacity to integrate additional renewable energy.

The sides also emphasized the need to expand transmission capacity and regional interconnectors alongside power generation capacity to meet growing electricity demand driven by artificial intelligence, data centers and digitalization.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on private-sector participation in renewable energy projects, ADB financing opportunities and technical assistance for modernizing the heat supply sector.
