On September 1 in Tianjin, China, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, where both leaders highlighted the substantial potential to strengthen tourism and people-to-people connections between their countries.
President Muizzu fondly recalled his recent visit to Azerbaijan during COP29, praising the organization of the conference and the productive discussions he held with President Aliyev, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
President Aliyev, in turn, referred to their earlier meeting in Baku, noting that following those discussions, an Azerbaijani delegation visited the Maldives to conduct political consultations and explore cooperation in economic, trade, and investment sectors.
Key topics included the development of direct flights from Azerbaijan to the Maldives, simplifying visa procedures, promoting mutual investments, and expanding the legal and contractual framework for bilateral cooperation.
President Muizzu extended an invitation to President Aliyev for an official visit to the Maldives, which the Azerbaijani leader warmly accepted.
