Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Monda met with UK Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty.
During the meeting, the sides discussed cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom in the fields of politics, economy, energy security, connectivity, climate change and the environment, humanitarian issues, education, as well as regional and international security matters of mutual interest, The Caspian Post reports, citing the country's Foreign Ministry.
The parties pointed out that through large-scale projects implemented in the field of energy security Azerbaijan has proven to be a reliable partner. The meeting stressed the importance of advancing this positive dynamic of cooperation in traditional energy sources towards the development of alternative energy sources. In this context, the sides praised the establishment of cooperation between SOCAR and bp on renewable energy.
The meeting hailed the active participation and contributions of the UK Prime Minister and delegation to the session, held as part of Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The sides highlighted the joint initiatives in the field of education, including the establishment of new partnerships between higher education institutions, the role of state programs, and the need to continue efforts in this direction.
Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information on the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, including progress in the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization and peace process.
The meeting underlined that the initialing of the text of the "Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia" as well as the issuance of a joint appeal for the closure of the OSCE Minsk Process and related structures at the historic Washington meeting on August 8, marked significant achievements within the peace process.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual concern.
On the same day, the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom held political consultations, led by Deputy Minister Fariz Rzayev from Azerbaijan and Minister of State Stephen Doughty from the United Kingdom.
