Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Dominates Ani Cup, Secures 17 Gold Medals in Türkiye

The “Ani Cup” wrestling tournament, held in Kars, Türkiye to mark the anniversary of the conquest of Ani city, brought together over 150 athletes from eight teams representing Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Iran.

Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan national team, consisting of 23 athletes and led by head coach Faiq Isgandarov, took part in the competition, The Caspian Post informs per local media.

The delegation also included coaches Orhan Asgarov and Bari Aliyev, along with referee Nihad Muradov.

Azerbaijani wrestlers delivered a stellar performance, winning a total of 31 medals. In freestyle wrestling, the team secured 14 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals, while in Greco-Roman wrestling, they earned 3 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals.

In the 12-13 age group, Azerbaijani athletes achieved first place in both freestyle and Greco-Roman categories, underlining the country’s emerging young talent and continued dominance in wrestling.
