Azerbaijan Uncovers TikTok Accounts Impersonating Payment Systems

Azerbaijan’s National Cybersecurity Agency (NCA) has identified TikTok accounts promoting websites that imitate legitimate payment systems.

According to the agency, the websites advertise discounted internet and voice packages allegedly offered by Azerbaijani mobile operators Azercell, Bakcell and Nar. However, the sites do not provide genuine payment services and instead seek users’ bank card details, The Caspian Post reports.

The NCA said the cases are not isolated incidents but part of a network operating according to a common template.

Each case involves the same four elements: a name designed to imitate a legitimate payment brand, a website hosted on cheap or free hosting, a TikTok account and paid advertising promoting the profile. While the brand name varies, the overall structure remains unchanged.

The agency also confirmed that paid advertising was used in all identified cases. The promotional materials carry an “Ad” label and include “Learn more” and “Shop now” buttons.

According to the NCA, this shows that each account is supported by an advertising account, a payment method and verified contact details.
