Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Tuesday held a phone conversation with Khaled El-Enany, newly elected Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Minister Bayramov congratulated Khaled El-Enany on his election and wished him success in his new role, The Caspian Post reports, citing Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.
The sides hailed the existing cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO, expressing readiness to boost these ties. They underscored Azerbaijan’s role in multicultural diplomacy and intercultural dialogue, discussing the country’s initiatives and its future collaboration with UNESCO.
The Azerbaijani FM emphasized the importance of the Director-General’s efforts to increase trust in UNESCO and to prevent politicization of its activities.
Minister Bayramov briefed the UNESCO Director-General on the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) scheduled in Baku in 2026, the Baku Process, and the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, inviting him to participate in these events.
He also highlighted the landmark Washington Summit and the post-conflict regional developments.
The conversation included an exchange of views on other regional issues of mutual interest.
