Azerbaijani President Holds One-on-One Talks with German Chancellor

On July 21, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a one-on-one meeting with Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Friedrich Merz in Berlin.

The one-on-one meeting was then followed by an expanded meeting, The Caspian Post reports via Azertac.

Azerbaijan and Germany have steadily expanded their bilateral relationship since establishing diplomatic ties in 1992. Germany is Azerbaijan's largest trading partner in the South Caucasus and one of its key economic partners within the European Union. Cooperation has traditionally centered on energy, but in recent years it has broadened to include renewable energy, transport and logistics, industry, digitalization, agriculture, education, and business development.

The two countries maintain an extensive legal framework for cooperation, with more than 77 bilateral agreements in force covering areas such as economic collaboration, investment, aviation, culture, science, and technical assistance.
