Ukraine has welcomed the signing of the Joint Declaration between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington, describing it as an important step toward lasting peace in the South Caucasus.
Verkhovna Rada (parliament) Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk shared his assessment on social media following a phone conversation with Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan, The Caspian Post informs via local media.
Stefanchuk noted that the parliamentary leaders discussed key international developments, including the trilateral summit of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the US, held in Washington on August 8.
“The Joint Declaration among Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the United States represents a significant step toward establishing durable peace in the South Caucasus. Ukraine supports initiatives based on the principles of the UN Charter, international law, sovereignty, and the territorial integrity of states,” Stefanchuk wrote.
He underlined Ukraine’s readiness to deepen political dialogue and strengthen interparliamentary cooperation with Azerbaijan.
Stefanchuk also said he had invited his Azerbaijani counterpart to visit Ukraine and take part in the 4th Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform in Stockholm. He added that he values the reciprocal invitation to visit Baku to further enhance interparliamentary ties.
