The World Freestyle Wrestling Championships for athletes under 20 started on August 17 in the city of Samokov (Bulgaria), The Caspian Post informs via press service of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
On the first day of competition, finalists were determined in the weight categories of 70, 74, 97 and 125 kg.
In the 70 kg weight class, Nurlan Aghazadeh defeated Canadian Cade Brown with a score of 9:2 in his debut fight, then in the 1/8 finals he defeated Kyrgyzstan's Zalkarbek Tabaldiev - 5:2, and in the quarterfinals he won ahead of schedule against Chinese Tao Wei - 12:2 and advanced to the semifinals. However, one step before the final, the Azerbaijani wrestler lost to Moldovan Alexander Gaidarli - 4:7. Tomorrow Aghazadeh will fight for the bronze medal.
Aganezer Novruzov (74 kg) confidently defeated Bulgarian Stiliyan Djorov - 10:0, but in the 1/8 finals lost to German European U20 champion Manuel Wagen - 2:7.
Revan Musaev (97 kg) defeated Hungarian Peter Zivnovski with a score of 10:0, but in the 1/8 finals he lost to Frenchman Ashab Dadaev - 2:12.
Yusif Dursunov (125 kg) won the opening bout against Chinese Zhuljie Li by touch, then defeated Georgian Aleksandr Abramishvili - 5:0. In the semi-finals, Dursunov met Iranian Abolfazl Nejad. The wrestlers did not perform any effective holds, and the opponent advanced to the finals on the principle of the last point scored (1:1). Tomorrow, Dursunov will also take to the mat in a fight for third place.
