The Bank of Russia has approved a list of cryptocurrencies that will be available to non-qualified investors, the regulator’s press service reported.
“The Bank of Russia has determined the list of cryptocurrencies that can be accessed by non-qualified investors. It includes Bitcoin, Ethereum and USD Tether. The regulator’s relevant guidance will take effect on November 17. From that date, exchanges will be authorized to allow these assets for public circulation,” the bank said in a statement, The Caspian Post reports.
Non-qualified investors will be able to purchase cryptocurrencies through various intermediaries, including brokers, asset managers and crypto exchange platforms, both on organized and over-the-counter markets.
Meanwhile, qualified investors will have access to all crypto assets without restrictions. However, regardless of their investor status, individuals will be required to pass tests and familiarize themselves with the risks associated with cryptocurrency investments before carrying out transactions.
According to the Central Bank, the list includes only the most liquid cryptocurrencies, selected based on criteria established by law.
“Market capitalization, average daily trading volumes and the history of pricing on foreign platforms - which must cover at least five years - were taken into account during the selection process. This approach is aimed at reducing the risks faced by non-qualified investors when investing in crypto assets,” the regulator added.
