Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan Set $10 Billion Trade Goal

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have agreed to expand their strategic partnership and target $10 billion in bilateral trade, following high-level talks held at the Kuksaroy Palace in Tashkent.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev co-chaired the second meeting of the Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan Supreme Interstate Council, a format established in 2024, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

President Mirziyoyev noted that the mechanism has already proven its relevance and effectiveness.

“Our relations today have reached the highest level - a strategic partnership and alliance,” Mirziyoyev said at the meeting.

The talks focused on deepening cooperation across new sectors and fully leveraging the potential of both economies. Special attention was given to ensuring steady growth in bilateral trade, diversifying its structure, and creating more favorable conditions for businesses. Officials reported that trade turnover has reached $4 billion since the beginning of the year. The two sides confirmed plans to increase this figure to $10 billion by 2030.

The meeting also highlighted progress made toward this goal, including the formation of a substantial package of trade and investment agreements, the launch of the “UzKazTrade” company, and the growing use of direct cooperation mechanisms between business communities.

In addition, participants reviewed plans to strengthen industrial cooperation. These include launching the “Central Asia” International Industrial Cooperation Centre, implementing $1.3 billion worth of joint projects, and preparing a new cooperation program exceeding $8 billion.

The leaders also discussed joint initiatives in transport and logistics, water and environmental management, energy efficiency, green technologies, IT, as well as science, education, culture and tourism.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of several key decisions aimed at further expanding Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan cooperation.
