Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia Explore Prospects for Development of Military Cooperation

Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov on Tuesday met with a military delegation from Saudi Arabia.

Welcoming the guests, Minister Hasanov expressed satisfaction with their visit to Azerbaijan, The Caspian Post reports, citing the Defense Ministry.

He noted that the development of relations between the two countries, based on friendship and brotherhood, receives special attention and is always a priority for President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev.

It was emphasized that Saudi Arabia's participation with an expanded delegation in the 5th Anniversary Azerbaijan International Defense Exhibition (ADEX), held on September 24-26, 2024, at the Baku Expo Center, was highly commended.

The minister informed the guest about the ongoing demining efforts in the territories liberated after the victory in the Patriotic War and expressed gratitude for the support provided by Saudi Arabia in this matter. It was mentioned that, of the 382 civilians and servicemen injured by mine explosions after the Patriotic War, 70 lost their lives.

Expressing satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan, the guest thanked the Azerbaijani side for the warm hospitality. He congratulated Colonel General Hasanov on the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, prayed to Almighty Allah for the repose of the souls of the shehids, and expressed his deepest condolences to their families. The guest emphasized that mutual visits of military delegations contribute to the expansion of bilateral relations.

Prospects for the development of cooperation in the military and military educational spheres, as well as regional security issues, were discussed during the meeting.

The delegation then visited the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, where they met with Colonel General Karim Valiyev, First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army.

At the meeting, both sides expressed confidence in the continued development of cooperation based on mutual trust and support, highlighted the importance of exchanging experiences, and discussed other matters of interest.
