Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has announced that the government has begun to develop a project to move the capital of the Islamic Republic.
This decision was revealed during a meeting with Cabinet members, where the president stressed the importance of addressing potential environmental and logistical challenges through the relocation, The Caspian Post reports, citing Iranian media.
To oversee the project, President Pezeshkian has appointed First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref. The president warned that failure to act on this matter could lead to significant environmental issues and other future concerns.
Furthermore, Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s commitment to strengthening its economic ties with neighboring countries, viewing this as essential for economic growth and mitigating the impact of international sanctions.
In a statement made in September, the president suggested that the political and economic hub should be moved to the southern coast of Iran. He explained that this shift would enhance the country’s competitiveness, as it would streamline the transportation of raw materials and finished products between the southern coast and the central region, facilitating better export operations.
