Tamaz Borashvili will become the new head of Georgia’s State Security Service, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced at a briefing.

Gela Geladze, who stepped down from the position on September 14, will become a deputy interior minister. Notably, Geladze previously served as interior minister from May 2025 to April 2026, according to Sputnik Georgia.

Borashvili is a career officer of Georgia’s State Security Service. In September 2025, he was appointed deputy head of the agency under Mamuka Mdinaradze.

Following a leadership change at the security service in April 2026, Borashvili retained his position as deputy head under Geladze.
