A Georgian appeals court on Wednesday approved plea agreements for four defendants in a case related to an attempt to storm the presidential palace during anti-government protests.
The four defendants admitted guilt and expressed remorse. They are scheduled to be released from prison on November 5, The Caspian Post reports, citing Xinhua.
Another four defendants, who have also admitted guilt, have applied to the Prosecutor’s Office for similar agreements.
The case dates back to October 4, 2025, when municipal elections were held across Georgia. A protest in the capital escalated into clashes, with a group of demonstrators attempting to storm the presidential palace.
Authorities subsequently detained five opposition figures, including prominent public figure Paata Burchuladze, on charges of plotting to overthrow the government.
The Georgian government has described the events as a failed coup attempt backed from abroad. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze referred to the protests as “an attempted overthrow of the constitutional order.”
