Landslides Trigger Road Chaos in Georgia Amid Torrential Rains

The Roads Department under the Georgian Infrastructure Ministry has stated that torrential rains caused major disruptions in Georgia, with landslides blocking key routes and prompting temporary road closures in several regions.

A significant landslide occurred at the 96th kilometer of the Jinvali-Barisakho-Shatili highway, forcing authorities to temporarily suspend traffic along this route, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

Another issue has emerged on the road to Tusheti, one of Georgia’s most popular tourist destinations. Due to persistent rainfall and dangerous conditions, access to the Tusheti road has also been prohibited. Landslides at the 23rd and 25th kilometers from the village of Lechuri have completely blocked the road.

Traffic has also been suspended on the Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo road, a critical internal route, due to safety concerns.

Heavy machinery and emergency crews have been deployed to all three affected areas, where intensive clearing operations are underway.

However, officials stated that the full reopening of the roads depends on weather conditions and will be possible once the rain subsides.
