Iran Says Up to 400 Military Personnel Killed in January Violence

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that up to 400 Iranian military personnel were killed during the riots in January.

"Of the announced figures, more than 2,000 people are innocent victims, and 300-400 are military personnel who died defending law and order," he said on Iranian state television, The Caspian Post reports, citing foreign media.

At the end of January, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reported that more than 3,000 people had died as a result of armed clashes in the country.

According to the Tasnim news agency, around 3,700 people were injured during the unrest in Iran.

The authorities in the country detained 297 participants of the riots, who had attacked security forces and destroyed state and religious institutions.
