Iran has welcomed China’s opposition to US plans to increase sanctions pressure on Tehran, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said.

"We welcome China’s principled statement rejecting illegal sanctions against Iran. The Iran-China comprehensive strategic partnership is rooted in mutual respect, win-win cooperation, and a shared vision for a multipolar world. This relationship needs no one’s permission," Ghalibaf wrote on X.

Ghalibaf’s remarks followed a statement by China’s Foreign Ministry opposing sanctions that it says violate international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council. Beijing also warned that it would protect its interests in the trade sector.

Ghalibaf is one of the senior members of Iran’s delegation involved in negotiations with the US aimed at resolving the conflict.
